Trees are one of nature's fractals (along with clouds, coastlines, and plants such as cauliflower, broccoli, and ferns), and they can be drawn with mathematical formulas that describe the number, angle, and placement of each branch. The fractal characteristic of repetition of self-similar shapes can easily be seen as the trunk divides into branches, and each branch subsequently divides into smaller branches. Even though Acclivus (Latin for "acclivity," meaning an upward slope) is probably my most realistic work and somewhat resembles a photograph, it was (as is all my art) entirely created by manipulating mathematical formulas to create each of its 82 layers of shapes and textures.
